SP Engineering Custom Tune: 520 AWHP + JRZ + Volk G12

Many owners of GT-R’s enjoy modifying their cars to their own liking.  Whether it be to stand out from the crowd,  obtain better times at the track,  or for aesthetic purposes of making the car more pleasing to the eye… As time goes on though you sometimes get the urge to refresh or change up your spec sheet.

On that note we’ve got another small build to show you guys.  This time around it’s a 2009 white GT-R which belongs to a good friend of ours.  This particular GT-R came in for a refresh…with the goal of obtaining a few more power points; refreshed exhaust system,  upgraded coilover system,  and a refreshed set of wheels.

On the to-do list:
HKS spark plugs
HKS mid pipe
HKS Superior Spec R exhaust
Titek Down Pipe (Catless)
2012 inlet pipe
JRZ super RS pros
Swift sway bars with Whiteline endlinks
19” Volk G12′s + Toyo R888

91 Pump Gas Tune

The ultimate goal was to make this car a well mannered street GT-R as well as a weekend track warrior. With the power upgrades the car received along with an SPE tune the car is now making 520AWHP/502TQ.

This GT-R also changed it’s shoe setup.  The car came in wearing BBS LM’s and is now leaving with Volk G12′s.  These wheels sit really nice with the lines of the GT-R, no spacers needed here…

Jason's SPE GT800

We had the pleasure of working on Jason's white GT-R. It was a very involving build process with work done to both the engine and the transmission. Jason's car features our SPE Stage 3, but instead of utilizing the Greddy turbo kit, Jason opted for the HKS GT800. This is SP Engineering's first time incorporating the HKS GT800 into one of our builds. The HKS GT800 is one of the best kits for those who are seeking all around response up to 900 awhp. The HKS GT800 kit shares the same low end response as the HKS GT570 in our SPE750 kit, but has much more capable upper end power. Therefore, no sacrifices are made throughout the entire RPM range.

To match the increased performance, we performed the SPE Stage 1 Transmission upgrade. This would increase the tolerance of abuse from the power that the engine is making now.

On 104 Sunaco and 1.8 bar, the car put down 829 AWHP and 764 ft-lbs. During the tuning sessions, the roar of the car echoed throughout the entire shop. The sound is nothing short of amazing. The car pulls relentlessly and is amazingly quick.

W212 E63 AMG riding on COR-Wheels

You might remember this E63 AMG from a previous visit where we worked on lowering the car. This time installation on a set of COR Forged Wheels was on the to-do list.

COR Forged Cipher's were the style of choice completed in a Titanium finish with carbon fiber lips.
20x8 front//20x11 rears

These COR cipher wheels definitely set off the E63, and we hope the owner enjoys his new look.

Weksos Industries: Wekfest SF 2012 Coverage

Took a little trip up north this weekend to attend Weksos Industries Wekfest SF 2012. The show was jam packed with the finest imports, euros, and domestic cars on display.  The best vendors had their set-ups going along with the most poplar imports in the scene at the moment.

Held at Fort Mason Festival Herbst Pavilions in downtown San Fransisco the show was packed with spectators.  This shot was taken before general public was allowed entrance, the line literally went around the entire premise of Fort Mason.

Prototype Swift Spec R lowering springs for 2009-2011 and 2012 GT-R platform

We here at SP Engineering paired up with Swift USA to test out their new prototype lowering springs for the 2012 GT-R platform. As you're aware 2008-11 GT-R's were equipped with softer spring rates from the new 2012 models (18KGM's in the front) which lead to the creation of SPEC R springs by Swift.

Swifts Prototype Spec R lowering springs come in at a firm 19.7KGM for the fronts and 9KGM for the rears. Allowing for a much more solid ride as well as approximately 1'' drop all around. Please keep note that these springs are still in the testing stage so numbers may change.

These springs were installed on one of our clients MY12's GT-R. Currently our client is happy with these springs as they are stating "The very first thing I noticed from the new Swift Spec R springs was my cars ride height. From my first initial drive I noticed that these springs are much stiffer. I also noticed the handling was a lot better through turns. I really like the overall height now, it gives my car an even better and much more aggressive look with my setup."

The current price on these springs is still TBA/TBD stay tuned for more updates!
